This allows us sufficient time to promote the class, but also means we are unavailable for grading work during that time. This is something of a trade-of; occasionally I miss work while running a class, other times the phone isn’t ringing red hot so the training is a better option.

All ICA instructor expenses are paid for by the class so we need a set number of students to make visiting a city viable. We all love working in the industry, (and if you don’t running a training class won’t be for you), but we still have expenses that need to be covered. For this reason we try and maximize the chances of getting the most students in a class, meaning a visit to New York, London or Singapore.

I make an effort to counter this by visiting a smaller city periodically, or one not normally know as a post-production ‘hot bed’.

Earlier this year I went to Cambodia to run a private class at Hang Maes in Phnom Pehn.
